Look for a sign for airflow or an arrow to indicate direction. The furnace or air handler should be the direction of the arrow. If your filter doesn’t have any arrows, check to see if one side is rougher than the other; if so, that side will be used to gather dust, and the other side will be the side that faces the machinery.
