Remove the floor grill and the register that surrounds the heat exchanger. Use a vacuum cleaner to clear out any accumulated dirt from the area. Wipe the parts down with a damp cloth. Do not use any solvents or cleaning solutions as they may leave a residue behind which will burn when you turn the furnace back on.
