Frequently asked questions.

Why do pipes with hot water freeze first?

The bottom half of the water will begin to freeze. At the same time, the top remains warm if the water is initially heated because the cooled water at the bottom is denser than the hot water at the top, preventing convection. In rare circumstances, this phenomenon and the evaporation effect may cause hot water to freeze more quickly than cold water.
