Viessmann boiler error 48
This article aims to explain what “Error 48” means in the context of Viessmann boilers.
Viessmann boiler error 48 is a safety mechanism that indicates whether the burner is lit and if it has been lit for too long. If there are no other instances of this error, this indicates that the boiler may be out of gas or that the gas flow has been interrupted.
Viessmann Boilers error 48 is a common boiler error code that arises due to clogging of the heat exchanger.
The following is a guide on what to do if you encounter such an issue.
1. Turn off the boiler and unplug it from the power supply. 2. Clean the heat exchanger according to the instructions given in your owner’s manual, or call your service provider for help dealing with this issue if you are not aware of how to go about it yourself.
The boiler error 48 is also called the CE3 error. The CE3 is a 48-volt protection and control module that monitors and controls the electric motors in the circulator pump, blower, and air handler.
There are two ways to diagnose this issue. The first way is to check on the variables involved in the system by checking out any errors that might be flashed up on a display screen or any faults reported in an event log. The second way to diagnose this issue is by using an oscilloscope or voltmeter to check for input signals on pins 4 and 9 of the module and pins 5 through 8 of the power source connector located at terminal J3 of the module.
The viessmann boiler error 48 can be fixed by replacing a defective power source connector from terminal J3, replacing a defective CE 3 module, cleaning out dust build-up from inside cooling coils around the air handler, or replacing the blower motor if necessary.
